AWAKEN YOUR CONSCIENCE!
There are over six billion human beings existing on planet earth. Although every individual is distinct and unique in appearance, personality and characteristic, one thing we all have in common is the fact that we are all flesh and blood, and we all share a common humanity. We also have emotions, feelings, and the human conscience. It is a known fact that the human nature is naturally selfish. Yes, Sigmund Freud, the founder of psycho analysis validated the claim that the human ego is intrinsically self-seeking. I think it is only logical to assume that since nature has made man have a good degree of self preference, thinking about oneself, or giving oneself priority may not be a negative tendency after all. I really do believe that every individual does deserve a healthy dose of self-care. The fact of the matter is, if you don't care for, love, or appreciate yourself, how can you do same for others? Nobody, and I mean, nobody is capable of offering others what they do not have. For instance, if you are not happy, how can you genuinely make others happy or share in their happiness? If you are bruised, battered and wounded, how can you offer others care and support? If you don't love yourself, how can you give true love to others? If you are hungry, deprived and impoverished, how on earth can you offer others financial counsel or help? If you are depressed, disillusioned and frustrated, how can you lift another out of the doldrums? Definitely, someone who is hateful, malicious and mean, will find it tough, if not impossible, to wish others well, or share genuinely in their joys and triumphs. Such a person will revel in other people's failures, pains, downfalls, mishaps, and will even wish others dead! Oops! You think I'm kidding? No way! I mean every ounce of what I am saying. Now what's my point? Whilst it is okay to give yourself a good measure of care, love and attention, it is totally absurd, nay, absolutely senseless to have an inordinate obsession with self. When your indulgence in self takes an excessive, nefarious, immoral or cruel degree, there is a big problem at stake. You need to halt and have a sincere self examination. "Too much of anything is bad", so says a cliché.
Some people's conscience has become seared and in its place is hardness, insensitivity and brutality. Those people have simply buried their human feelings. Don't you think that there is much more to life than you, yourself and you? Folks, you can never find true joy, peace and fulfillment, if your life is centred around nobody else but you. It is about time we began to deal with our negative idiosyncrasies, particularly when they impact negatively on other people's lives. I believe that some parents are reading this now, so let me start with dads and mums. With due respect to us parents, some of us are so obsessed with ourselves and our career, that we don't care enough about the welfare of our offspring and wards. Some parents and guardians actually have the heart to abuse their children and wards physically, emotionally and even financially. Some are a bad influence on their children because of the reckless lives they live, yet they expect these young ones to grow into responsible adults in future. Why are some so stingy that even when they can afford some comfort for their children, they withhold unduly from them because they think their children need to suffer the same way they suffered growing up? Why are you busy producing more children when you haven't shown sufficient love and care to the ones you already have? This may be some had pill to swallow, but I believe it is needful to judge ourselves sincerely. For the young men and ladies out there, why do you do the things you do, knowing that they are unjust, unfair and improper?
There are young people out there who wish their parents will drop dead so that they can inherit and squander their parents' wealth. Wishing someone else dead is a negative emotion for which you need to pray and repent. Young man, why do you enjoy deceiving every young lady that comes your way, professing love and loyalty, when indeed what you feel is lust and infatuation? Why do you think of nothing else but sex, when it comes to the opposite gender? Can't you have some respect for the female folk rather than think of how to use, abuse and dump them? For the young ladies out there, why have you become so obsessed with money and lust that you have thrown all restraint and decency to the winds? You see every man as a potential prey to indulge your craving for riches and fleshly passion. How about our brothers and sisters out there who are involved in gang activities? Young persons are now involved in iniquitous crimes such as armed robbery, rape, murder, assassination, prostitution, and every imaginable vice under the sun. Whatever happened to our human conscience? This is by no means a call to self condemnation, rather it is a plea for us to awaken our human conscience and rekindle our human compassion. It is therefore imperative for us to treat others the way we will want them to treat us. God is waiting for the lost to retrace their steps today. Do make that necessary change now. Change for the better. The Almighty is able to rescue your life from its horrible mess. So long.
